We checked out the overlook of the falls, which was really great and allowed us to have a perfect view of the gorgeous falls. Confirmed by 1 User. I would say that the area map was helpful - which I would recommend picking up at the trading post located in parking lot of the main falls area. ... We pulled in and while the RV (hookup) area was about half full, the tent area (which allowed RVs, just doesn't have hookups) only had two other sites taken. We then drove to another area and took a trail about a mile long to the Blackwater gorge at Lindey Point. I'd love to come back, stay a few nights and do some hiking. I would go back. It hard to find the lookouts, so research ahead of time. Several playgrounds, a lake with paddleboat rental. Lots of hiking trails and plenty of places to get off the beaten path. Make sure to check out the Haley's comet time capsule begins the main lodge overlook. Blackwater lodge, cabins and restaurant are open year-round. If you do visit, go to the lodge and find the trail to the left (if you are facing the building) and take the short walk to another (smaller) cool waterfall. In winter, there is an intertube run, with skiing in Canaan Valley within ten miles. The room has two beds, one queen and one twin. Weather is perfect.Highly recommend a stop if you are in the area. Arrived during a steady downpour and rented a cabin for the first night but camped the second night. The overlooks are gorgeous, and the trails are easy and brief. The Lodge has a rustic restaurant and there are nice views off the back side. There are delicious restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs in nearby Thomas, WV that could fulfill various appetites before/after visiting this park and if you get hungry while in the park, I recommend the park's concession stand's pepperoni rolls. There are two cute towns here, Davis and in particular Thomas, West Virginia, where the types of coffee shops, bars and restaurants rival Asheville, North Carolina more than what one might typically associate with WV. I was there during the rainy months so the falls were great. It's absolutely gorgeous!!! Winter visitors will catch the falls frozen over in unique configurations, and can ski or sled down the Allegheny Mountains in between trips to the fire ring or warming hut for hot cocoa. We've often been practically snowed in and having the restaurant there is handy. Overall it was good - I enjoyed the falls and going up to Lindys Point and looking out at the valley and mountainside. Last reported 6/2/2017. This place has always been beautiful but with the drought in WV going on right now, the water wasn't massive and superfluous like it should have been. If you enjoy the outdoors and love to hike then you need to visit Blackwater Falls and the surrounding Canaan Valley Area of WV.
