I started around 9:45 and finished at 3:30. All this being said...I would NOT drive this road in any vehicle if snow or freezing rain is forecasted. So I just posted a picture of the gate. Definitely recommend it for whoever doesn’t care much about the car. You will cross a stream at.5 and 1.2 miles (low clearance sports cars not recommended). Like most reviews the payoff is well worth it. Walk back was all downhill and easy. Now the trail has been improved and winds around the back of the rock for an easier ascent. Return trip much easier about 90 minutes each way. Trail definitely still closed - not just closed but signs to trail taken down and clear markings that no one is to cross barrier. Many of the roads in this area are single lane gravel roads that require patience (The North Fork road up from the Tye River being a good example). Very secluded. Left will take you towards the Priest and right to Spy Rock. Take a sharp right onto the AT and you'll find the the trail head a bit further. It's a significantly longer hike than shown. Park your vehicle and hike up Cash hollow road past a bunch of camping sites and a locked forest service gate. And the Fish Hatchery part of the hike is all uphill, rocky/gravel for a mile before you even reach the AT. If you drive this road slowly and use the many pullouts to allow opposite direction vehicles to pass it will not be a problem. Over toward your left you can see parts of Morgan Mountain that you will be walking on the west part of the loop. Dogs are also able to use this trail. I followed the other users recommendation of driving 3.1 mile from route 56. Went after rain and it drizzled most of the hike. We crossed paths with MANY individuals that encountered the same challenges as ourselves with regard to finding the actual trail.
