Another camping opportunity is the Little Crease Shelter with large fire ring and privy, or the campsite where you cross Mill Run 100 yards downhill. 3 or 4 campsites near the top. More on the easy side of "moderate." Slightly is longer at 7.0 miles but has better views of the river. Very muddy. Great mid-week end of summer hike. Correction to earlier comments: After reviewing additional maps, I see it is not possible to hike the trail North on Massanutten Mountain. Mile 4.8 - Arrive back at the Veach Gap parking area. It was likely due to diffuse early morning light, due to the fog on an otherwise clear and calm spring morning (plus lack of air, train, car travel makes for very clear views during covid closures), but this was a really stunning trail. Lots of long clear views, the streams are really pleasant, and the tree & landscape changes as you go further up the mountain are really interesting.
